Question of the day

Why are people on running/athlete forums such assholes when you ask for advice??? Third time this has happened to me, third forum, third training-related question I've asked. I know, fool me once, shame on you...blah blah. I guess I'm done asking anyone in the online running community for advice. EVER.

Seriously....all I wanted to know was how to plan my remaining long runs/taper. And responses I got included "FAIL." "You're (sic) marathon is going to suck." <---to which I replied with equal snark that my marathon would not suck worse than her English skills, and that I am not, in fact, a marathon. Umm...someone said that I have low pain tolerance (HAHAHA and WTF)...basically a lot of unhelpfulness.

Asshole runners can suck it. OVER IT.

  1. Ugh - that blows. The internets are sometimes good, sometimes horrible. Sorry it was the latter.

  2. Not sure I want to say. It wasn't BT (this time), but I don't know that I want everyone to go find the thread and view all the snark that I returned. Ya'll aren't supposed to know I react like a caged animal when cornered. :) It was a pretty well-known running site though, and apparently, unbeknownst to me, I ventured into the area where they RACE and look down their noses at people who do a marathon to finish, because grandmas and guys with prostheses can finish. (The last part of that sentence is exactly what someone told me.)

I think it probably struck some nerves that there are people who complete marathons on less than 80 hours a week and take longer than 4 hours to do it. Suddenly they're not such special snowflakes anymore.

The thread actually did get a bit better and more productive and helpful, but I'm done surfing any online triathlete/running forums for quite a while. I know I'm letting them get to me more than I should, but honestly, my ego's got a stress fracture and I need to rest it. :)

  3. LMFAO at your reply! I love intelligent snark.

"grandmas and guys with prostheses can finish"

WTF? Someone needs to be taken down a peg. Finishing is a freaking awesome goal.

  4. Totally have seen this in action before... on person was asking how to train for a marathon now that they started a new full-time job... they were looking for a 3-4 day plan. Anyway someone jumps on their and is makes some jerk comment about how "everyone has full-time jobs" and if you can't hack it than get out now. ... umm.. that's rude!
